What We Do

What We Do

Engage Support is a specialist provider of both 24-hour & outreach support for young adults with a developmental impairment

Engage works with individuals across the spectrum of learning disability, autism & developmental impairment.

We also support individuals with a dual diagnosis, e.g. mental illness and autism.

The team here at Engage are dedicated to providing an alternative lifestyle for people who have complex support requirements, where each individual can develop a level of independent living that exceeds expectations and works within our lifespan approach to providing care now that works for each person’s future.
This involves a detailed assessment of the individual, including how each person engages with the world around them.

We assess how a person interacts with people, identifies their sensory triggers and the building details or adaptations that can make all the difference to the person’s daily living, and their need for active one-to-one support.

Our Focus

We focus on intervention and support with young people and adults between the ages of 16 and up whose behaviour or presentation impacts on opportunities and result in reduced access in the community.

This includes behaviours that may harm the person or others around the person. Our focus is making a person’s world work; supporting positive identity and reducing reliance on behaviours that may cause harm. We take a lifespan approach (considering how support now impacts over a person’s lifetime) and we can provide ongoing support into older age.

We also provide specialist assessment, step-up and step-down support and we work alongside statutory, and other agencies, putting the individual and family at the heart of our care and support.

Our Approach

Our underpinning approach is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) which combines the conceptual framework of applied behaviour analysis with the value base of social role valorisation and framework of person-centred approaches.

PBS is about establishing trust, developing relationships, building on strengths, teaching new skills and behaviours that safely gain or avoid for the person.

At Engage Support, we also believe it is essential to understand the sensory needs of each person with autism. Light, sound and touch can all act as triggers that create the stress and anxiety that people with autism who have complex needs can find difficult to manage. This can restrict their opportunities to manage their own needs daily.

Activities

Therapeutic Activities
Engage Support Ltd has a policy of promoting the maintenance of Service Users’ normal social network and social activities.

The Service User’s Care Plan includes a facility for recording life history, social networks and contacts, and preferences for activities and hobbies in order that the Service User is offered access to those networks and activities which are appropriate and desired.
Meaningful Activities
Activities are at the centre of our ethos. We specialise in supporting people to take part in therapeutic activities such as hiking in the Peak District, rock climbing, horse riding, cycling, swimming and boating.

We have access to a narrow boat during the warmer months of the year and access the Peak District throughout the year.
All of the services we operate, have access to their own vehicles to access the community daily.

As well as our out-door pursuits, ENGAGE offer a range of activities, depending upon the needs of an individual.

Other activities that some of our other Supported Person’s participate in include thing such as; going to a sensory room, going out for pub lunches, visits to museums, visits to local markets, going to organised discos for people with learning disabilities, going to the cinema, bowling, leisure centres, playing football, dancing, college etc.

ENGAGE feel that we could accommodate most activities that a person may wish to participate in, or which may be beneficial to them in some way, through careful planning and carrying out the appropriate risk assessments.
